A Little About Myself.
Growing up as the only child with parents who are not very well educated, his mum always told Andy to study hard and get a degree then he will have a good life. That may be true in the 80s but no longer enough in the 21st Century. The job demands are different and personal aspirations are different.
Andy seldom saw his father when he was a kid as his father was always busy with work yet couldn't make ends meet. That made Andy thought about spending more time with his children in future yet being able to provide for them.
Finally graduated with an Honors Degree in Network Computing, Andy thought he was ready to work towards his dreams. Having worked in a SME, civil service then one of the “Big 4” accounting firms, he experienced the different aspects of working in different sectors and quickly climbed the corporate ladder to mid-management after a few years.
However, the biggest change in priorities came with the birth of his first child. Andy wants to spend more time with his daughter. He wants to witness her first steps, her first words and many other firsts. A regular job, especially in a demanding, fast-paced environment, just doesn’t allow that possibility.
Working hours is beyond Andy's control and he often worked till middle of the night as he is the team leader of a team of IT security professionals taking care of banking systems. His daughter is usually asleep by the time he gets home and it is tiring for his wife to juggle work and taking care of the child.
Andy finally took the leap to become a real estate salesperson to have more control of his time and also to have flexibility to attend to family matters. Hopefully, this career path also allows Andy to achieve financial freedom for him and his family in the not-too-distant future.
